Номінативне поле концепту VESSEL в англійській мові

Abstract

Стаття присвячена аналізу номінативного поля концепту VESSEL в англомовній наївній картині світу. Матеріалом дослідження слугувала вибірка з тлумачних словників англійської мови. Цілком очевидно, що англомовний, насамперед британський, етнос у розвитку нерозривно пов'язані з освоєнням водного, зокрема морського простору, а словниковий склад англійської мови є відбиттям цієї своєрідності. Актуальність виконаного дослідження полягає у його лінгвокогнітивній спрямованості та включеності до антропоцентричної парадигми сучасних лінгвістичних пошуків. У центрі нашої уваги виявляється роль суб'єкта, що пізнає, в процесах сприйняття і категоризації світу, які детермінують процеси вербалізації, ословлювання світу. Даний концепт розглядаємо як певний фрагмент мовної картини світу, що відображає знання і уявлення носіїв англійської мови про певну ділянку оточуючого їх світу. Проаналізовано структуру номінативного поля концепту VESSEL, що складається з ядра, медіальної зони і периферії. Проведений дефініційний аналіз ядерних лексичних одиниць досліджуваного номінативного поля дозволив згрупувати інтегральні семи цих одиниць в сукупність наступних когнітивних ознак: АРТЕФАКТ, що має форму КОНТЕЙНЕРА і призначений для цілеспрямованого ПЕРЕСУВАННЯ по ВОДІ. Найбільш узагальнено виділена модель присутня в ядерних одиницях поля: boat, craft, ship, vessel. Медіальна зона містить більше п'ятдесяти лексичних одиниць, кожна з яких уточнює ту чи іншу когнітивну ознаку. Периферія загальномовного варіанту досліджуваного поля складається зі ста фразеологічних одиниць англійської мови, які образно переосмислюють дану когнітивну модель. Корабель, судно, судноплавство служать донорською когнітивної сферою, з якої мовці черпали смислові блоки і переносили їх в інші, цільові когнітивні сфери, трактуючи абстрактні або конкретні феномени, ситуації, дії в термінах судноплавства і мореплавства.

The article is devoted to the analysis of the nominative field of the concept VESSEL in the English-speaking naïve picture of the world. The material of the study was a selection from explanatory dictionaries of the English language. It is quite obvious that the development of the English-speaking, primarily British, ethnos is inextricably linked with the development of water, in particular sea space, and its vocabulary reflects this peculiarity. The relevance of the performed research lies in its linguistic-cognitive focus and inclusion in the anthropocentric paradigm of modern linguistic research. The focus of our attention is the role of the subject in the processes of perception and categorization of the world, which determine the processes of verbalization, naming the world. We consider this concept as a certain fragment of the linguistic picture of the world, which reflects the knowledge and ideas of English speakers about a certain part of the world around them. The structure of the nominative field of the concept VESSEL, consisting of a core, a medial zone, and a periphery, is analyzed. The conducted definitional analysis of the core lexical units of the studied nominative field made it possible to group the integral semes of these units into a set of the following cognitive features: ARTIFACT, which has the form of a CONTAINER and is intended for purposeful MOVEMENT on WATER. The most generalized selected model is present in the nuclear units of the field: boat, craft, ship, vessel. The medial zone contains more than fifty lexical units, each of which specifies one or another cognitive feature. The periphery of the general language version of the field under study consists of a hundred phraseological units of the English language, which figuratively reinterpret this cognitive model. VESSEL serves as a donor cognitive sphere, from which speakers drew blocks of meaning and transferred them to other target cognitive spheres, interpreting abstract or concrete phenomena, situations, actions in terms of shipping and seafaring.
