Неологізми в аспекті українсько-англійського перекладу

Abstract

Постійна зміна та оновлення мови, що зумовлено потребами суспільства позначати нові явища, призводить до виникнення неологізмів. Саме тому неологія є перспективною галуззю мовознавства. Вона привертає до себе увагу лінгвістів низкою невирішених питань. Так, досі немає єдиного визначення поняття «неологізм», недостатньо вивченими є способи перекладу неологізмів. Події, які відбуваються на території України з 2014 р., стали приводом для виникнення досить великої кількості неологізмів. Деякі слова актуалізувались у звʼязку з конфліктом. Стаття присвячена виявленню особливостей українсько-англійського перекладу неологізмів. Матеріалом для дослідження слугували онлайн видання, з яких були відібрані неологізми періоду Майдану, пост-Майдану, анексії Криму та військових дій на Донбасі та Луганську. У дослідженні автор притримується широкого підходу до визначення поняття «неологізм». Відповідно до цього неологізмами можуть бути новоутворені слова, запозичені з інших мов, слова з обмеженим використанням, а також слова, які після зникнення на деякий час поновили своє використання. Варто також зазначити, що неологізми мають чотири критерії, серед яких критерій часу, критерій мовного простору, критерій новизни та критерій встановлення структурних ознак новизни. У процесі перекладу неологізмів важливу роль посідає прагматичний аспект. Адекватній передачі прагматичного змісту сприяють фонові знання, які містять інформацію про культурний контекст та етномовний код мовця. Процес перекладу прагматичного значення неологізмів передбачає взаємодію трьох компонентів значення слова, а саме прагматичний компонент адресанта, адресата та перекладача. У результаті нашого дослідження був здійснений переклад українських неологізмів англійською мовою. Серед способів перекладу найбільш розповсюдженим є калькування, але зустрічається також описовий переклад, транслітерація, генералізація та модуляція. Перспективою подальшого дослідження є виявлення особливостей англо-українського перекладу неологізмів.

Constant changes and language updating, which are caused by the needs of a society to name new phenomena, lead to the creation of neologisms. Consequently, neology is rather productive branch of linguistics. It attracts attention of linguists because it poses a range of unsolved issues. Thus, there is not a single definition of a neologism, the ways how to translate neologisms are not examined enough. The events which have taken place on the territory of Ukraine since 2014 have been a reason for the creation of rather a large number of neologisms. Some of them have become actual again due to the conflict. The article is devoted to the research of the peculiarities of Ukrainian-English translation of neologisms. To achieve the aim of the research the author addresses the Internet publications from which the neologisms of different periods such as Maidan, post- Maidan, Crimea annexation and the military actions in Donbas and Luhansk have been studied. The broad approach to determine a notion of neologism is taken in the research. According to it, neologisms can be newly-created words, borrowed words, words of limited use and also words which, after being absent for some time, are used again. It is worth to say that neologisms have four criteria such as a criterion of time, a criterion of language area, a criterion of novelty and a criterion of structural characteristics of novelty. The pragmatic aspect plays an important role for the translation of neologisms. Background knowledge, which contains the information about cultural context and ethno-lingual pattern of a speaker, benefits the adequate transmission of pragmatic content. The process of translation of neologism pragmatic meaning involves the interaction of three components of a word meaning, that is a pragmatic component of an addresser, an addressee and a translator. The Ukrainian-English translation of the neologisms has been performed in the framework of the research. In the majority of cases calque has been used to translate the neologisms. Other ways of translation are descriptive translation, transliteration, generalization, modulation. The prospect for the further research is to identify the peculiarities of the English-Ukrainian translation of neologisms.
