Особливості представлення лінгвокультурних відмінностей у романах Джоджо Мойєс

Abstract

У статті йдеться про особливості представлення лінгвокультурних розбіжностей у творах «Подаруй мені зірку» і «Та сама я» англійської романістки Джоджо Мойєс. Проаналізовано комунікативну поведінку чужинки в новому оточенні (англійки в американському соціумі) – підкреслену позицію «я своя», а не «я чужа», бажання приховати власну чужість. Виявлено візуальні сигнали чужини й іншої національної належності (деталі зовнішності, невербальні жести). Виокремлено етнокультурні бар’єри, пов’язані з порушенням мовленнєвого етикету, неадекватною реакцією, психологічними перешкодами, формами непрямої комунікації. Простежено семантичну опозицію «британська англійська – американська англійська» у діалогах та в емоційно-оцінному ставленні американців до чужого мовлення. З’ясовано, які психологічні й навіть фізіологічні реакції викликають у місцевих мешканців (Кентуккі і Нью-Йорка) іноземна вимова і відчутний акцент. Визначено емоційні стани, які супроводжують процес входження в нову реальність (тривогу через недовіру тутешніх, напруження через постійний вибір, роздвоєність, розпач та ін.). Відзначено, що два різні когнітивні простори не перетинаються через світоглядні розбіжності, що зумовлює у творах ефект «ошуканого сподівання». Окреслено способи категоризації явища чужого простору (міста Нью-Йорка): скажімо, нове місце дає миттєві задоволення, примушує рухатися «мільйон миль за годину», має осмотичну енергію, здається центром світу тощо. Помітно, що в романі «Подаруй мені зірку» негативний оцінний вектор так і не змінюється на позитивний, етнічний стереотип є надзвичайно стійким, а розвиток характерів свідчить про поступовий перехід від позитивного, захопленого оцінення чужого до крайнього вияву – огиди. Розглянуто опозитивні кореляти «англійський/американський світогляд» на прикладах таких сфер: справедливість, мода, зовнішність, міжособистісні стосунки, свята, кар’єра. Різні оцінні реакції, автостереотипи, моделі ділової поведінки, штампи свідомості, уявлення (про дрес-код, красу, соціальний простір), ціннісні орієнтири персонажів указують на «базових особистостей», що увібрали типові етнопсихологічні риси своїх спільнот. З’ясовано, що основна суперечність пов’язана не лише зі світоглядними розбіжностями, а й передусім із внутрішнім конфліктом – між тією, ким є чужинка, і тією, кого вдає в новому оточенні. Перспективою дослідження є вивчення лінгвокультурних розбіжностей на матеріалі сучасних художніх перекладів.

The article deals with the peculiarities of linguocultural representation of differences in the works "The Giver of Stars" and "Still Me" by the English novelist Jojo Moyes. The communicative behavior of a stranger in a new environment (Englishwomen in American society) is analyzed, i.e. the emphasized position “I am your friend”, not “I am a stranger,” the desire to hide one's own alienation. Visual signals of foreign land and other nationalities (details of appearance, nonverbal gestures) are identified. The ethnocultural barriers to understanding associated with violation of speech etiquette, inadequate reaction, psychological obstacles, and forms of indirect communication are highlighted. The semantic opposition "British English – American English" in dialogues and in the emotional and evaluative attitude of Americans to someone else's speech is traced. It was found out what psychological and even physiological reactions a foreign pronunciation and a tangible accent evoke in local residents (Kentucky and New York). The emotional states that accompany the process of entering a new reality (anxiety due to local mistrust, tension through constant choice, duality, despair, and others) have been identified. It is noted that two different cognitive spaces do not intersect through worldview disagreements, which leads to the effect of disappointed expectations in the works. The ways of categorizing the phenomenon of alien space (New York City) have been determined: for example, a new place gives instant pleasure, makes you move “a million miles per hour,” has osmotic energy, seems to be the center of the world, and the like. It is noteworthy that in the novel "The Giver of Stars", the negative evaluative vector does not change to positive, the ethnic stereotype is extremely stable, and the development of characters indicates a gradual transition from a positive, captured assessment of someone else's to an extreme manifestation – disgust. The positive correlates of the "English / American worldview" are considered on the examples of such spheres: justice, fashion, appearance, interpersonal relations, holidays, career. Different evaluative reactions, autostereotypes, models of business behavior, stamps of consciousness, ideas (about dress code, beauty, social space), values of the characters indicate the "basic personalities" who have absorbed the typical ethnopsychological features of their communities. It was found that the main contradiction is connected not only with worldview differences, but first of all with the internal conflict – between the one who is a stranger and the one who pretends to be in a new environment. The prospect of the research is the study of linguocultural differences on the material of modern literary translations.
