Arvo Valton (born 1935) is considered to bе one of the best Estonian writers. Yet during the Soviet regime he managed to present in his fable-like characters eternal issues. The analysis of the short story "The Noose" and the novel "Travel beyond Infinity" proves that Arvo Valton is а parable-creator. Не resorts either to an anonymous character or historical figure of Genghis Кhan as central characters. The story' s character is confronted with а decisive choice: risk it and you will bе either on or off. The novel's central character has his fictional biography but the eternal cursed issues of the goal of human endeavours pester him and the reader. That is why Arvo Valton, а writer of а small country, is interesting to the world.uk
