Феномен французького католицького літературного відродження XX ст.: поняття та генеза

Abstract

Стаття присвячена проблемі феномену французького Католицького літературного відродження кінця XIX – першої половини XX ст. як маловивченому унікальному культурно-політичному та літературно-модерністському явищу. Компаративно досліджено відмінність у підході до руху сьогоденної європейської та української гуманітаристики. В межах загальної аналізи феномену католицького літературного ренесансу у французькій літературі виокремлено дві проблеми: термінологічна семантика та хронологічні межі руху. Обидва питання – ключові для розуміння сутності феномену, втім досі чітко не визначені та мають варіятивну природу залежно від дисципліни або центральної письменницької фігури. Проаналізовано поняття «Католицького літературного відродження» у французькій мові, показано його історичне походження та окреслено різницю між двома широковживаними і на перший погляд синонімними термінами на окреслення цілого літературного напряму – «renaissance» та «renouveau». Показано, з одного боку, звуження його значення до поняття «католицького роману» чи ще вужче – «міжвоєнного католицького роману», з іншого – невмотивоване розширення до окреслення всієї «етичної генерації у французькому романі» чи ще ширше до усієї «християнської літератури» першої половини XX ст. У цьому контексті французьке Католицьке відродження зіставлено з відповідними рухами в інших європейських літературах та названо їх найвагоміших представників. Проблематизовано граничні межі католицького руху в межах французької гуманітаристики. Особливий акцент зроблено на генезі та історико-культурних підвалинах повернення християнського світочуття в літературу та культурний простір Франції. Показано вплив літератури романтизму, хвилі навернень мистецьких еліт кінця XIX – початку XX ст., політичного розголосу «Справи Дрейфуса», народження ангажованого інтелектуала та формування часописів і видавництв як головних осередків руху, а тому можливості його інституалізації. Відповідно, сходження з авансцени низки знакових літературних фігур та зникнення видавничих осердь руху розглянуто як кінцеві межі французького Католицького літературного відродження як уніфікованого суспільно-мистецького явища. На цій основі і згідно з панівним історико-літературним принципом запропоновано чосові межі ренесансу.

The article is devoted to the problem of the phenomenon of French Catholic literary Revival of the late XIXth – mid XXth century as almost unknown still unique cultural-political and literary-modernist fact. From the comparative perspective the difference in the approach to the movement in nowadays’ European and Ukrainian humanities is studied. Within the general analysis of the phenomenon of the Catholic literary Revival in French literature, two problems have been identified: terminological semantics and chronological boundaries of the movement. Both questions are key to understanding the essence of the phenomenon, but still not clearly defined and have a variable nature depending on the discipline or the central literary figure. The concept of «Catholic literary Revival» in French language is analyzed, its historical origin is shown and the difference between two widely used and at first sight synonymous terms to outline the literary movement – «renaissance» and «renouveau» is outlined. On the one hand, it shows the narrowing of its meaning to the concept of «Catholic novel» or even narrower – «interwar Catholic novel». On the other hand, we see unmotivated extension to outline the whole «ethical generation in French novel» or even more broadly to all «Christian literature» of the first half XX century. In this context, the French Catholic Revival was compared with similar movements in other European literatures and their most important representatives were named. The boundaries of the Catholic movement in French humanities are problematized. Particular emphasis is placed on the genesis, then historical and cultural foundations of the return of the Christian worldview to the literature and cultural space of France. The influence of Romantic literature, the wave of conversions of artistic elites of the late XIX – early XX centuries, the political publicity of the Dreyfus affair, the birth of an engaged intellectual and the formation of magazines and publishing houses as the main centers of the movement and the possibility of its institutionalization are showed. Subsequently, the ascent from the forefront of a number of iconic literary figures and the disappearance of the publishing centers of the movement are considered as the ultimate limits of the French Catholic literary Revival as a unified socio-artistic phenomenon. On this basis and in accordance with the prevailing historical and literary principle, the temporal boundaries of the Catholic Renaissance are offered.
