Анотація
The article is dedicated to Potebnya’s views on language development. Such peculiarities of language development in the conception of O. Potebya as universality, continuity, objectivity, succession, evolution, qualitative character are analysed in the article. Special attention is paid to O. Potebnya’s statement that language development corresponds to the steady process subordinated to the progress. According to the aspect, O. Potebnya’s attitude towards the theory of two periods of language development is investigated.
