Abstract

Minority persons are aided by social workers in nearly all of the traditional social agencies; in fact, they constitute unduly large clientele percentages in public welfare, corrections, and other community services. Two major concepts used to define minority problems are cultural dissonance and institutional racism. The social work profession is acutely aware of these phenomena and is working to mitigate them in our society. Two new major theoretical concepts of sociocultural intervention and biculturalism are adding new insights to the practice of social work. These modeis give specific guideguidelines for working with minorities.
