Функционально-коммуникативная сущность комплимента в культурологическом аспекте (на материале англоязычного художественного диалога)

Abstract

The article is a diachronic research of a verbal compliment as a part of the national English culture. The author understands compliments as the means of the speech tactics objectivized in the text by the utterances expressing admiration, praise, approval of a certain event, personal characteristics and achievements. The compliments are treated in the article as a part and parcel of the speech etiquette of any national culture. The main objective of the research consists in revealing functional and communicative evolution of the compliment in the diachrony of the XVIII – XXI cc. A conclusion is made about changes having taken place in pragmatics and psychological interpretation of the compliments.
