Пухлини каротидного тільця як причина ішемічних порушень мозкового кровообігу

Abstract

Three rare cases of brain ischemia due to the extracranial carotid artery compression are analysed in the article. The causes of the compression were carotid body tumors (chemodectomas). The patients showed transient ischemic attack (one case) and ischemic strokes in two cases. The diagnostic complex included carotid artery ultrasound, transcranial dopplerography, computed tomography and selective carotid angiography. The optimal treatment is total removal of the tumor. Use of operative microscope and brain blood circulation is obligatory. Surgeon should follow some special surgical rules during the procedure.
