dc.description.abstract | The effective ionic radius corresponding to the coordination number CN = 6 (so-called octahedral or sixfold ionic radius) and compatible with the radii system by Shannon [Shannon R.D. Acta Crystallogr. 1976, A32(5), 751-767] has been derived for the cation Sn2+ from the crystal structure of the binary iodide SnI2 and from the "bond valence (s) – bond distance (d)" correlation curve defined by us earlier for the Sn2+/O2– ion pair. The recommended value for the octahedral ionic radius of Sn2+ is 1.02 Å. Additionally, a scheme for deriving the ionic radii of Sn2+ for other possible CNs has been presented based on the above "s – d" correlation. A few methodological problems of empirically determining the effective ionic radii have been discussed. | uk |
