Вплив сексизму на розвиток англійської мови у ХХ столітті

Abstract

Статтю присвячено дослідженню закордонного досвіду реформування англійської мови наприкінці ХХ століття шляхом спроб подолання сексизму у мові. Автор у статті розглядає проблему андроцентризму та гендерної асиметрії англійської мови, що виникла у XX столітті з початком активної діяльності феміністського руху у США, та є актуальною сьогодні. У статі проаналізовано головні ознаки та приклади гендерної асиметрії в англійській мові, що принижують гідність особистості за статевою ознакою, та продемонстровано варіанти гендерно-нейтральної мови.

The article is devoted to the study of the foreign experience of reforming the English language at the end of the ХХth century through attempts to eliminate sexism from the language. The author considers the problem of androcentrism and gender asymmetry of the English language that arose in the ХХth century with the onset of active activity of the feminist movement in the USA and is relevant today. The main features and examples of gender asymmetry in the English language, disparaging the merit of a person by gender, are analyzed, and variants of a gender-neutral language are demonstrated as well.
