Особливості та труднощі перекладу сучасних англійських прислів'їв і приказок

Abstract

У статті проаналізовано основні труднощі перекладу сучасних англійських прислів'їв і приказок. Переклад фразеологічних одиниць з англійської мови на інші представляє значні труднощі. Це пов'язано з тим, що багато з них є яскравими, образними, лаконічними, багатозначними. При перекладі потрібно не тільки передати зміст фразеологізму, але і відобразити його образність, не загубивши при цьому його стилістичну функцію. Також необхідно враховувати особливості контексту. Те що є очевидним та зрозумілим для носія мови, може потребувати у перекладача додаткового аналізу паремії, адже, для прислів’я особливо важливими є контекст та конкретна мовленнєва ситуація. Таким чином, у випадках коли сенс та метафоричний зміст прислів’я неможливо зрозуміти інтуїтивно, перекладачеві слід завжди аналізувати контекст. Слід зазначити, що для адекватного перекладу таких пареміологічних одиниць, потрібно розуміти та враховувати на що саме направлений дидактичний аспект конкретного прислів’я та його стилістичну спрямованість. Важливо також приділяти увагу лексико-граматичній будові прислів’я в мові оригіналу. Труднощі перекладу англомовних фразеологізмів українською мовою пов’язані не тільки з розбіжностями будови англійської та української мов, але й, насамперед, з особливим статусом фразеологічних одиниць, що переважно належать до семантично неподільних виразів, у яких план змісту не збігається з планом вираження. Ознаками цих одиниць є відносна сталість їх складу, семантична цілісність значення, відтворюваність, образний характер. Безперечну складність під час перекладу викликає національно-культурне забарвлення фразеологізмів, т. зв. ідіоетнічний компонент їх значення, у разі відтворення якого може не збігатися лексичний склад, структура, образи вихідних і цільових фразеологічних одиниць. Калькування, описовий переклад, використання псевдовідповідника, абсолютний (повний) еквівалент, близький еквівалент – основні трансформації, що використовуються у процесі перекладу прислів’їв. Трапляються випадки, коли мова перекладу не має адекватних відповідників, а скористатися калькуванням неможливо. Тоді перекладач повинен скористатися описовим способом. Таким чином, він переказує прислів’я мовою перекладу, пояснюючи його. При використанні близького еквіваленту, змінюється лише образна частина паремії, а виразність зберігається. Завданням перекладача є створити або знайти прислів’я, яке було б максимально близьким до оригіналу за всіма головними аспектами. Слід пам’ятати, що найголовнішим є збереження прагматичної функції прислів’я.

The main difficulties of translating modern English proverbs and sayings are analyzed in the article. The translation of phraseological units from English into other languages presents considerable difficulties. This is due to the fact that many of them are vivid, imaginative, concise, and ambiguous. When translating, it is necessary not only to convey the meaning of phraseology, but also to reflect its imagery without losing its stylistic function. It is also necessary to take into account the peculiarities of the context. What is obvious and understandable for a native speaker may require additional analysis of the proverb by the translator, because the context and the specific speech situation are particularly important for a proverb. Thus, in cases where the meaning and metaphorical content of a proverb cannot be understood intuitively, a translator should always analyse the context. It should be noted that in order to adequately translate such paremiological units, it is necessary to understand and take into account the didactic aspect of a particular proverb and its stylistic orientation. It is also important to pay attention to the lexical and grammatical structure of the proverb in the source language. The difficulties of translating English phraseological units into Ukrainian are connected not only with differences in the structure of the English and Ukrainian languages, but also, first of all, with the special status of phraseological units, which mostly belong to semantically indivisible expressions, in which the plan of content does not coincide with the plan of expression. The signs of these units are the relative constancy of their composition, semantic integrity of meaning, reproducibility, figurative character. Undeniable difficulty in translation is caused by the national and cultural colouring of phraseological units, the so-called idiolectic component of their meaning, which may not match the lexical composition, structure, images of the source and target phraseological units. Calque translation, descriptive translation, use of pseudo-equivalent, absolute (full) equivalent, and close equivalent are the main transformations used in the translation of proverbs. There are cases when the target language does not have adequate equivalents, and it is impossible to use calques. Then the translator must use the descriptive method. In this way, the translator retells the proverb in the target language, explaining it. When a close equivalent is used, only the figurative part of the proverb changes, while the expressiveness is preserved. The translator's task is to create or find a proverb that is as close as possible to the original in all key aspects. It should be remembered that the most important thing is to preserve the pragmatic function of the proverb.
