Номінації на позначення людини в англійській народній мові ХІХ ст.

Abstract

Стаття присвячена аналізу номінацій народної мови на позначення людини в контексті лінгвокультурної мотивації внутрішньої форми слова, етимологічної реконструкції його значення з урахуванням принципів антропоцентризму та етноцентричної спрямованості. Автори зазначають, що лінгвокультурна мотивація номінації розглядає зв’язок культури та мови, відображення національних традицій, світогляду, релігії в конкретних мовних одиницях. Культурні чинники часто є ключовими у формуванні та еволюції слів. Наприклад, багато англійських народних лексем ХІХ ст., що позначають людину містять компоненти-гіпероніми типу man, woman, brother, wife та ін., які маркують композити, юкстапозити та двокомпонентні утворення на позначення професій, соціального та родинного статусу, тощо. До вмотивованих номінацій на позначення людини відносимо лексеми та фразеологічні звороти з експресивною характеристикою зовнішніх чи внутрішніх якостей означуваного: поведінки, вигляду, способу дії і т.п. Такі номінації наділені більш чи менш постійною ознакою, що дає змогу реконструювати національно-культурні образи, які покладено у їхню основу. За способом утворення превалюють метафоричні номени, фразеологізми та фразеологізми-порівняння, які встановлюють схожість ознаки того, що номінується з людьми, місцями, тваринами, предметами, міфічними істотами і т.д. Реконструкція образу номінацій народної мови – це процес відтворення первісного значення та образу, що стоїть за певними словами чи виразами, які використовуються у повсякденній мові людей. Цей процес включає аналіз внутрішньої форми слів, їх етимології та лінгвокультурної вмотивованості. Етимологічний аналіз дозволяє дослідити походження слова, його історичне коріння та еволюцію становлення значення та форми, виявити комплексні культурні, історичні, соціальні та інші чинники, що вплинули на утворення та розвиток слова.

The article is devoted to the analysis of the vernacular nominations for a person in the context of internal form of the word linguistic and cultural motivation, etymological reconstruction of its meaning taking into account the principles of anthropocentrism and ethnocentric orientation. The authors note that the linguistic and cultural nomination motivation considers the relationship between culture and language, the reflection of national traditions, worldview, and religion in specific linguistic units. Cultural factors are often key in the formation and evolution of the words. For example, many nineteenth-century English vernacular lexemes denoting a person contain hypernym components such as man, woman, brother, wife, etc., which mark composites, juxtaposites and two-component formations denoting professions, social and family status, etc. Motivated nominations for a person include lexemes and phrases with expressive characteristics of the external or internal qualities of the signifier: behaviour, appearance, mode of action, etc. Such nominations are endowed with a more or less permanent feature, which makes it possible to reconstruct the national and cultural images that form their basis. The method of formation is dominated by metaphorical nomens, phraseological units and phraseological units of comparison, which establish the similarity of the feature of the nominated object with people, places, animals, objects, mythical creatures, etc. The reconstruction of the vernacular nominations image is the process of recreating the original meaning and image behind certain words or expressions used in people’s everyday speech. This process involves analysing the internal form of words, their etymology and linguistic and cultural motivation. Etymological analysis allows us to investigate the origin of a word, its historical roots and the evolution of its meaning and form, to identify complex cultural, historical, social and other factors that influenced the formation and development of a word.
