"Route to Recovery – ICU Board Game" exemplifies this approach by transforming the patient rehabilitation journey into an engaging board game experience. At its core, the game is built around a 5×5 grid where each square represents a critical step in the rehabilitation process—from initial patient assessment and early intervention to the final evaluation and discharge planning. The game mechanics are carefully designed to mirror real-life clinical decision-making. Each of the six players assumes a distinct healthcare occupation, each with a tailored set of 25 detailed activities that reflect typical ICU interventions. These activities are underpinned by established medical scales (e.g., Barthel Index, Glasgow Coma Scale) and measurement devices, ensuring that every move on the board corresponds to measurable aspects of patient care. Furthermore, the simulation enhances interactivity and realism by generating randomized patient histories and conditions, thereby reinforcing the unpredictability inherent in clinical practice. A dedicated risk and barrier assessment module allows players to identify and document potential challenges, mirroring the dynamic nature of patient recovery. Complementing these features, the integration of VP TOOLKIT AI provides an avenue for on-demand clinical insights, simulating a digital consultation that reinforces learning and critical thinking.
