Abstract

The article focuses on the cognitive approach to the theory of the semantic structure of a word. Nomina agentis of the Middle English period formed on the basis of word-combination are the object of investigation. Within the framework of cognitive theory the semantic structure of a word, especially of a derivative, is treated in close connexion with its word-building.
