Агентивно-професійна лексика середньоанглійського періоду: історико-етимологічний аспект

Abstract

Здійснено теоретичне і методичне опрацювання проблеми історико-етимологічного складу тематичної групи агентивно-професійних назв англійської мови ХІ – ХV століть. Вивчено етимологічний склад агентивно-професійної лексики середньоанглійського періоду. Установлені сфери іншомовного впливу у галузі агентивно-професійної лексики за лексико-тематичними підгрупами.

Осуществлена теоретическая и методическая разработка проблемы историко-этимологического состава тематической группы агентивно-профессиональной лексики английского языка ХІ – ХV веков. Изучено этимологический состав агентивно-профессиональной лексики среднеанглийского периода. Определены сферы иноязычного влияния в области агентивно-профессиональной лексики по лексико-тематическим подгруппам.

The article focuses on the problem of foreign contacts and foreign influence of the Middle English period in the sphere of lexicology, especially occupational names. The study of common nouns and personal names, especially Middle English surnames, within one of their historical layers, gives us the possibility to disclose lingual means and ways of identification of people, interrelation of funds of proper names of neighboring territories in the process of formation of national language. Etymological analysis of common and proper nouns is still an inexhaustible source of the study of historical and cultural heritage of people, first of all of its social and political structure, especially its production, everyday life, religion, customs, traditions and so on. It helps in its turn to trace the salient traits of individuality of the peoples against the background of its neighbors in space and time. Taking into considerations of these arguments we have made an analysіs of the etymology of the Middle English occupational names, both common nouns and proper names. We have established that the total proportion of English occupational names and borrowings is approximately 4:1, but the spheres of foreign influence differs within the thematic groups.
