Abstract: The topicality of the material expressed in the given article is preconditioned by finding ways to improve the system of training and professional development of pedagogues in Ukraine in the process of integration into the European educational space. The experience of the neighboring countries that are regarded to be the members of the former socialist camp are of the utmost importance in this respect especially Slovakia. The problem of teacher professionalization actualized in Slovakia in the context of social and political change in early 1990s. But for a long time the effective steps to improve the status of teaching profession and betterment the pedagogues training were not made. The indications of the crisis of teacher's profession in Slovakia mentioned in the article: insufficient attention of the state and the lack of regulatory support concerning the teaching profession and pedagogical education; limited scientific research on the issue of reforming and professionalization of pedagogical education; the low prestige of teaching profession and insufficient financial support of employees in educational sphere; shortage of qualified teachers, poor training of Slovak teachers to individualization, computerization of modern education. Basic conceptual, legal and regulatory documents in the sphere of teachers’ professional development have been analyzed – «Duch školy», «Konštantín», «Milenium", "The concept of teachers’ professional development in the career system" and the law "About the pedagogical staff." In the article fixed that the key goals of teacher professionalization – is to create optimal conditions for improving the quality and efficiency of pedagogical work and career progress of teachers. According to the Slovak experts, professional profile of the teacher should contain three groups of competencies: student-oriented competencies; educational process-oriented competencies; teachers self-development oriented competencies. In 2009 the main aspects of teacher professionalization, especially the system of career progress and teacher further training were regulated by the law. It is concluded that the significant changes in the system of teacher professionalization have been made in Slovakia. The most urgent problem that needs to be settled in the future, is the normative definition of the system of teachers’ professional standards.
