Лінгвостилістичні особливості медичної термінології української та англійської мов

Abstract

Лінгвісти нині приділяють багато уваги вивченню закономірностей творення термінів, їх структури та семантики, оскільки термінологічна система сфери медицини стрімко зростає. Медична термінологія вважається однією з найдавніших фахових термінологій і характеризується складною історією розвитку, тому для коректної стандартизації медичних термінів першочерговою передумовою є вивчення її історичних аспектів, поетапної асиміляції та функціонування у мові-рецепієнті. Українська мова лише виступає мовою-рецепієнтом для медичних термінів, тобто послуговується лексемами англійської, латинської, грецької і французької мов, водночас англійська мова має статус мови-продуцента. Англійськомовні терміни швидко інтегруються не лише в медичну термінологію, але й у терміносистеми суміжних галузей.

Medical terminology is rightly considered to be one of the oldest professional terminologies characterized by the complex history of its development. Due to the fact, that medical terminological system is rapidly growing, linguists pay much attention to studying the formation of medical terms, their structure and semantics. However, later on the development of medical terminology has received less attention. Thus, the primary prerequisite of the paper is to study historical aspects, gradual assimilation and functioning of medical terminology for correct standardization of terms in the language-recipient. The efficacy of terminology functioning depends on its systematization in the language-recipient. Comparing the medical terminology of English and Ukrainian, both semantic and grammatical remoteness of certain elements of professional vocabulary having a special character of functioning in the sphere of qualified communication of healthcare specialists can be traced. The properties of the term are most fully implemented in this sphere. The most common way of introducing new terms into the languages under analysis is a complete borrowing, which involves extra-linguistic and linguistic factors related to each other, as well as term replacement by means of national correspondence or a descriptive translation. The Ukrainian language acts only as a recipient language for medical terms, that is, it uses the lexemes of English, Latin, Greek, Russian and French, while English has the status of a donor language. English terms are quickly integrated not only into the medical terminology, but also into the one of related branches. The process of borrowing is accompanied by assimilation at morphological, phonetic, derivational, lexical and semantic linguistic levels. It is also significant to define a medical term using prefixes, suffixes, root lexemes, and combining vowels. Some experts continue to insist that the intensive process of borrowing will lead to the loss of the identity of the recipient language.
