Abstract: The article attempts a comprehensive study of the best representatives of geopolitical thought in Ukraine in the late XIX – first half of the XX century: Mykhailo Drahomanov, Ivan Franko, Mykola Mikhnovsky, Dmytro Dontsov, Yuriy Lypa, Stepan Rudnytsky and Mykhailo Kolodzinsky. The authors analyze the geopolitical heritage of prominent Ukrainian thinkers through the prism of state-building processes. Considerable attention is paid to Ukrainian- Russian relations during various stages of national history. The article draws parallels with the current geopolitical situation in which Ukraine found itself after the Russian invasion in 2014. Based on this, it seems relevant to make a detailed analysis of the “Military Doctrine of Ukrainian Nationalists” by M. Kolodzinsky, who warned in the mid-30s of the last century about the events that are taking place today.
