| Description: | Triptans are a group of tryptamine-based drugs used in the acute treatment of migraine headaches. Structurally related to the neurotransmitter serotonin, triptans acts by selectively binding to serotonin type-1D receptors (serotonin agonist). The present review submitted the use of spectrophotometric techniques for the determination of triptans (Almotriptan, Eletriptan, Frovatriptan, Naratriptan, Sumatriptan, Rizatriptan, Zolmitriptan). This review covers the time period from 1990 to 2013 during which over 50 analytical methods of spectrophotometric techniques were reported. Presented application concerns analysis of triptans from pharmaceutical formulations and pure forms. |
