Abstract: Some aspects of the life and scientific and pedagogical interests of Professor Khoma Yukhymovych Rudenko have been considered in the paper. Who was K. Rudenko? How did he influence the development of Analytical Chemistry in Ukraine and how was his life related to Kyiv and Uzhhorod universities? In the early 60's of the 20th century, the number of the first year students at the Chemistry faculty of Kyiv University increased dramatically from 50 to 100 people because two new departments were founded and the third building of the Chemistry faculty was built. The head of the one of the newly created departments of the analytical school was appointed a chemist-analyst professor Anatoliy Terentiyovych Pylypenko (at that time he was the dean of the Chemistry faculty, later he became an academician of the National Academy of Sciences). A. Pylypenko was the one who offered a part-time teaching job at the faculty for the doctor of Chemistry Kostiantyn Borysovych Yatsymyrskiy, who later also became an academician of the National Academy of Sciences. Professor K. Yatsymyrskiy, a famous physicist-chemist was also well-known for his works in the field of kinetic catalytic methods of analysis and he started lecturing the general course "The Nature of Chemical Bonds" to students (1962–1992).In his memoirs and reminiscences academician K. Yatsymyrskiy, wrote: ‘For the first time I have felt the joy of reaching a specific goal and realized that I have always wanted to be a researcher’ which was the result of K. Rudenko’s influence, the employee of Kyiv University. K. Rudenko was born on 05.10.1901 in the village of Budyshche of the Vilshany district of the Kyiv province, now Cherkasy oblast and died in June 3, 1962 in Uzhgorod. He received the secondary education at the First Kyiv High school due to the financial support of the landlord family of the Engelhards (the descendants of those Engelhards who supported a famous Ukrainien poet and writer Taras Shevchenko). In 1920–1925 K. Rudenko was a student at the Biology Department of Kyiv University (at that time, Kyiv Institute for Public Education). From 1927–1930 he was a post-graduate student at the Department of Botany, in 1931 he got a PhD degree in Biological Sciences. From 1938– 1941 K. Rudenko worked as a deputy director in the research team of the Kyiv Botanical Garden named after Academician O. V. Fomin of Kyiv University. Then, he joined battle fields of the Second World War. In the postwar years, K. Rudenko had an appointment of the head of the department of Botany (1945–1962) at the newly established Uzhgorod University, laid the foundation for a cytomembrian school, was the dean of Biology (1946–1952) and Chemistry-Biology (1954–1956) faculties, was the first director of the Uzhgorod Botanical Garden of the university. He became a doctor of biological sciences from 1954. The Dissertation was presented at Moscow University named after M. V. Lomonosov. He was awarded with a number of orders and medals. The memory of Prof. Rudenko lives in the hearts and deeds of his former students and followers at Uzhgorod University, and at the Department of Analytical Chemistry of Kyiv University.
