Метафора та її різновиди у романах Шарлотти Бінгхем

Abstract

У статті розглянуто метафору, виділено її різновиди, охарактеризовано їхні стилістичні функції. Проаналізовано репрезентацію стилістичних засобів метафоричної групи у романах Шарлотти Бінґхем, встановлено їхнє відсоткове співвідношення у досліджуваних творах авторки. Метафору визначено як стилістичний засіб, у якому ознаки одного предмета чи дії переносяться на інший за подібністю. Зазначено, що, виконуючи роль універсальної номінативної моделі, метафора виступає конструктивним компонентом романів Шарлотти Бінґхем. Метафору класифіковано на узуальну й оказіональну. Встановлено, що у досліджуваних творах авторки наявні як узуальні, так і оказіональні метафори, основу яких становить схожість за зовнішніми, внутрішніми або функційними характеристиками. Розкрито, що до різновидів метафори належать персоніфікація, алегорія, символізація, синестезія, алюзія та антономазія. Персоніфікацію визначено як троп, що полягає у перенесенні рис і характеристик живої істоти на неживий предмет. Встановлено формальні маркери персоніфікації у романах Шарлотти Бінґхем. Виділено такі типи персоніфікації, як алегорія та символізація, охарактеризовано їх репрезентацію в романах Шарлотти Бінґхем. Стверджено, що специфічним різновидом метафори є синестезія, яка полягає у поєднанні в одному слові або словосполученні сукупності відчуттів. Досліджено, що в романах Шарлотти Бінґхем синестезію представлено низкою моделей («дотик – слух», «дотик – смак», «зір – слух» та ін.). Алюзію визначено як свідомий авторський натяк або пряму вказівку на загальновідомий літературний, історичний факт або на відомий художній витвір. Алюзії, виявлені в романах Шарлотти Бінґхем, типологізовано на релігійні, міфологічні, літературні, фольклорні тощо. Розкрито, що різновидом алюзії є антономазія, котру в зазначеній статті типологізовано на узуальну й оказіональну, досліджено їх репрезентацію в романах Шарлотти Бінґхем. Встановлено, що у зазначених художніх творах метафора та її різновиди виражають авторську оцінку описуваного, актуалізують асоціативне мислення читача.

The aim of the article is to study metaphor, outline its types, as well as describe stylistic functions of the former and the latter. The article gives the analysis of the metaphorical group of stylistic devices and their quantitative correlation in the novels by Charlotte Bingham. The term “metaphor” has been defined in the article as the transference of features of an object or action to another object or action based on the associated similarity between the two. It has been specified that metaphor is not only a structural element of the novels by Charlotte Bingham, but also a versatile nominative model. Metaphor has been classified into trite and genuine. It has been ascertained that in the novels by Charlotte Bingham both trite and genuine metaphors are based on the internal, external or functional similarity. It has been revealed in the article that there are such varieties of metaphor as personification, allegory, symbolization, synaesthesia, allusion and antonomasia. The term “personification” has been defined as a figure of speech based on attributing properties of a living being to an inanimate object. Formal markers of personification have been described in the article. It has been specified that allegory and symbolization are varieties of personification; their representation in the novels by Charlotte Bingham has been outlined. It has been maintained that another variety of metaphor is synaesthesia, i.e. a figure of speech in which a word or word combination appeals to more than one sense. It has been researched that in the novels by Charlotte Bingham synaesthesia is represented by a number of models (“touch – hearing”, “touch – taste”, “sight – hearing” etc.). The term “allusion” has been defined in the article as a calculated author’s cue or an explicit reference to well-known literary (historical) facts or works of art. Allusions represented in the novels by Charlotte Bingham have been classified into religious, mythological, literature and folkloric etc. It has been revealed in the article that a variety of allusion is antonomasia, which has been classified into trite and genuine. The representation of trite and genuine antonomasia in the novels by Charlotte Bingham has been researched. It has been outlined that in the novels by Charlotte Bingham metaphor and its varieties represent the author’s evaluation of the described phenomena, actualize the reader’s associative thinking.
