Методологічні засади дослідження префіксальних дієслів сучасної англійської мови

Abstract

Стаття присвячена методиці дослідження префіксального способу творення дієслова англійської мови, зокрема виокремленню його інваріантного значення у системі мови та низки елементарних смислів – сем, які виконують функції семантичних диференційних ознак у системі мовлення. Основними задіяними методами для дослідження префіксальних дієслів є спосіб словотворення у структурному та семантичному вимірах, компонентний аналіз та аналіз словникових дефініцій. Застосована методика значення – смисл – уможливила розмежування декількох різнопланових компонентів інваріантного значення в системі мови та змінного компонента в мовленні. Теоретичне і практичне значення механізму утворення різних смислів префіксального дієслова полягає у виявленні семантичного інваріанта та його ролі у породженні кожного наступного смислу. Розкриття чинників породження різних смислів префіксального дієслова лежить в його узагальнюючій природі, творчому поєднанні процесу мислення. Можливість утворення різних кількісно-якісних комбінацій одних сем та нейтралізація інших збільшує смислотвірну потужність префіксального дієслова, а постійне й одночасне функціонування усіх сем інваріантного значення обмежує можливості творення його смислів. Англійські префіксальні дієслова сфери гуманітарних наук характеризуються семантичними явищами полісемії, синонімії й антонімії, які зумовлюються специфікою сучасної англомовної термінології та стиранням у фаховій мові чіткої межі між загальнолітературною лексикою і лексикою спеціального призначення. Аналіз емпіричного матеріалу засвідчив, що у сучасній англійській мові спостерігається тенденція до зменшення ролі романських і зростання питомої ваги германських дієслівних префіксів. У статті зроблено висновок про те, що смисл префіксального дієслова – це результат творчого акту мислення, тобто об’єднання двох різнопланових семантичних компонентів – змінного маркованого члена семантичної опозиції із плану синтагматики мовлення і його маркера інваріантного значення із парадигматичного плану мови.

The article is devoted to the method of studying the prefixal verb in English, particularly the isolation of its invariant value in the language system and a number of elementary sema – senses, which function as semantic differential features in the speech system. The main methods are involved in the study of prefixal verbs including the method of word formation in structural and semantic dimensions, componental analysis and analysis of vocabulary definitions. The applied technique of meaning – sense is made it possible to distinguish several diverse components of the invariant value in the language system and the variable component (meaning) in speech. Both the theoretical and practical meanings of the mechanism’s different senses formation in the prefixal verb applies to identification of the semantic invariant. I’ts role in the generation of every subsequent meaning has been also clarified. Revealing the factors of the different meanings’ prefix verb generation lies both in its generalized free - flowing nature and the creative combination of the thinking process. The possibility of formation different quantitative and qualitative combinations in one family and the neutralization of others, increases the meaning- prefix verb’s forming power and conversely the constant simultaneous functioning of all invariant values that limits the possibility of it’s meanings’ creating. English prefixal verbs of the humanities are characterized by semantic phenomena in polysemy, synonymy and antonymy, which conditioned by the peculiarity of modern English terminology and the promotion of a clear boundary in the professional language between general vocabulary and lexicon. The analysis of empiric material has shown that there is a tendency to diminish the role of Romance and to increase the proportion of German verb prefixes in modern English. The article summarises the meaning of the prefix verb as the result of a creative act thinking, that is, the combination of two diverse semantic components: a variable labeled member of the semantic opposition in the plan of speech that is syntagmatics and its invariant meaning’s marker from the paradigmatic plan of language.
