Мотиваційні ознаки концепту "GENIUS" в англійській мові

Abstract

Стаття присвячена дослідженню особливостей вербалізації концепту “GENIUS” в англійській мові. Згідно з думкою представників семантико-когнітивного підходу концепт є базовою одиницею ментального коду людини, яка має внутрішню структуру, що складається із концептуальних ознак, концепт – це результат індивідуального та соціального пізнання світу. Концептуальні ознаки містять поняттєву інформацію про відповідний об’єкт чи феномен. Представники даного підходу розглядають мову як один із найважливіших засобів пізнання та концептуалізації світу. Вивчення концепту через мову є найбільш надійним способом лінгвістичного аналізу, що дозволяє визначити концептуальні ознаки та розробити структуру концепту. Структура концепту складається з мотиваційного, понятійного, образного й ціннісного складників. Мотиваційний компонент виокремлюється шляхом етимологічного аналізу слова-репрезентанта відповідного концепту. Будь-який аналіз концепту розпочинається з виявлення мовних одиниць, які репрезентують відповідний концепт, інтерпретації їх словникових та мовленнєвих контекстів. У роботі наведено основні аспекти дослідження феномену геніальності у філософії та психології, а саме: ірраціональний, раціональний, емпіричний та соціокультурний; наведено історію розвитку та становлення феномену геніальності у картині світу; проаналізовано етимологію лексичної одиниці “genius” в англомовних словниках; виокремлено мотиваційні концептуальні ознаки досліджуваного концепту в англійській мові. Внутрішня форма англомовної номінації “genius” актуалізує ірраціональний складник досліджуваного концепту. Протягом тривалого часу ця номінація позначала дух, притаманний людині, згодом – виняткову здібність. Лише у другій половині XVIII століття відбувся перелом в семантиці цієї лексичної одиниці. Відтоді слово “genius” позначає не тільки особливу здібність, але й саму людину, яка її має.

The article deals with the peculiarities of verbalization of the concept “GENIUS” in the English language. According to the opinion of the representatives of the semantic-cognitive approach, the concept is the basic unit of the human mental code, which has an internal structure consisting of conceptual features; it is the result of individual and social knowledge of the world. Conceptual features contain conceptual information about the object or phenomenon in question. Representatives of this approach consider language as one of the most important means of cognition and conceptualization of the world. Concept learning through language is the most reliable way of linguistic analysis, allowing to identify conceptual features and to model the concept structure. The structure of the concept consists of motivational, notional, associative and axiological components. The motivational component is distinguished by etymological analysis of the wordrepresentative of the corresponding concept. Any analysis of a concept begins with the identification of linguistic units that represent the corresponding concept, the interpretation of their vocabulary and speech contexts. The article considers main aspects of the study of the phenomenon of genius in philosophy and psychology, namely, irrational, rational, empirical and socio-cultural; the history of development of the phenomenon of genius in the picture of the world; etymology of the lexical unit “genius” in English dictionaries; motivational conceptual features of the studied concept in English. The internal form of the English “genius” foregrounds the irrational component of the concept under study. For a long time, this nomination signified a spirit inherent in man, and then – exceptional ability. It was only in the second half of the eighteenth century that the semantics of this lexical unit changed. Since then, verb “genius” denotes not only a special ability, but also a person who has this quality.
