Content of social workers’ training for the work with children in the UK, the USA and Ukraine

Abstract

The article addresses the issue of social workers’ training for the work with children in the UK, the USA, and Ukraine. The research outcomes allowed to conclude that the common features in the character of curriculum are: the combination of theoretical and practical aspects; social context of social work practice; training courses with main aspects on direct work with children and families, human capabilities, analysis of policies and services designed to address the problems of children, such as child abuse/ neglect, foster care, adoption, etc. The principal difference is the orientation of the content of training programmes in the UK and the USA on the problem prevention, preventive care, social-legal child protection, and in Ukraine − on therapeutic assistance, correction of deviations.
