The article is dedicated to the analysis of the concept life as a unit of mentality and worldview. In the context of our study, we interpret the concept life as a universal ontological concept of culture, which occupies an important place in the linguistic picture of the world of any nation. The relevance of the intelligence is due to the general focus of modern linguistic studies on the study of universal concepts in the ethno-cultural aspect, as well as the lack of studies of the linguistic and cultural specificity of the concept life on the material of the Latin proverbs. The purpose of the work is to identify the semantic-cognitive features of the representation of the concept life in the Latin proverbs and sayings. The source base was the Latin paremological units (165 units), which verbalize the ideas of ancient Romans about the earthly being, explicate its physical, moral and axiological features. The main means of verbalization of the analyzed concept in the linguistic picture of the world of the Romans are the tokens vita and vivere. The interpretation of the proverbs allowed us to distinguish the key semantic features and cultural connotations of the concept life in the Roman linguoculture. The life of the ancient man is a complex phenomenon, represented by biological, socio-cultural and spiritual component. The dominant conceptual features of the analyzed concept in the Roman linguoculture are biological existence, transience, the instantaneous transition to death, corruptibility. Living in the minds of the Romans is a constant work, science, education, struggle, progress. The socio-cultural and spiritual content of the concept is represented by the semantic spheres of lifehappiness, life-friendship, life-freedom, life-honor and dignity, life-reputation, life-hope. Spiritual and material well-being is important components of the ontological concept in the Latin language. The symbol of life is the road that connects the past and the future, the path that man goes to death. In addition, life in Latin proverbs is directly related to fate. The study of the Romans' attitude to life sheds light on the attitudes of the ancient people regarding its values and serves as a cultural identification code to determine the level of society consciousness.
