| Abstract: | У статті проаналізовано організацію тюремної освіти у ХІХ – на початку ХХ ст. Приділяється увага функціонуванню тюремних шкіл в Англії, Франції, США, Російській імперії та інших країнах. Описано побудову освіти на англійських навчальних кораблях та в американських реформаторіях. Стверджується, що тюремною освітою були в основному охоплені особи у віці до 35 років, викладачами виступали персонал тюрем, наймані та добровільні вчителі, священники, спеціально навчені ув'язнені. Ключові слова: тюремна освіта, тюремна школа, ув'язнений, навчальні кораблі, реформаторій. |
| Description: | The article analyzes the organization of the activity of prison schools in the nineteenth – early twentieth century. Much attention has been given to the functioning of the prison schools in England, France, the USA, the Russian Empire and other countries. The construction of education on English training ships and American reformatories have been described. It is alleged that prison education was mostly engaged persons under the age of 35 years, the teachers were a prison staff, paid and voluntary teachers, priests, and specially trained inmates. They tried to combine elements of general and vocational education, used interesting methods of work, tried to give the maximum amount of knowledge needed after release from prison.
