| Abstract: | “Love” is one of the most important and evergreen themes both in Russian and world literature and will always remain topical. Religious and philosophical views on the concept of “love” have changed from Platonic to Freudistic and have been reflected in fiction throughout history. The present study gives a detailed analysis of emotions like love and passion as described by I.A. Goncharov in his novel “The Ðrecipice” as well as the views of great philosophers like V.V. Rozanov, V.S. Solovyev and N.A. Berdiaev on the same subject. The main focus of this essay is the comparison of these views. |
