Abstract

The social and economic situation of the Transcarpathian population in the XiX - XX-th centuries rewealed the deficiency of the political elite, which was being represented by the intelligentsia, and which manifested itself in the public and cultural activity of the enlighters. Even the rise of the national-liberation movement during the years of the World War I, the development of the national self-consciousness, the search for the new ways of self - determination didn’t lead to the formation of the local political elite. Hence, since the region became the part of the Czech Republic, one can observe positive changes in the formation of the political elite, which has found its expression in social and political life.
