| Abstract: | The article is dedicated to the problem of the formation of the image of Ukraine and Ukrainians on the pages of Russian press at the turn of XIX-XX centuries. The author concentrated his attention on the materials of central press (the St. Petersburg and Moscow newspapers and magazines). The author concluded that the Ukrainian national revival was apprehended as alien and was inspired by Russia’s enemies - Austria and Poland. The Ukrainian language and literature were considered as second-rate and worthless. The difference in opinions on the Ukrainian culture between the conservative and liberal press was insignificant. |
