Протистояння між чеським королем Пршемислом Отакаром I та празьким єпископом Андрієм і позиція Папської курії (1216-1222)

Abstract

In autumn 1216 the head of the Prague diocese Andrew supported bу the рарасу accused Czech King Premysl Otakar I and the nobility of violating the church rights in the country. These accusations provoked the beginning of a durable and dramatic struggle for а complete liberation of the Czech Church from the influence of secular leaders. Despite his interdicts and the direct interference of the papal curia, Andrew failed to attain his ultimate goal. ln the long run the Bishop of Prague succeeded in attaining а full right for his own exclusive juris­diction (privilegium fori) and greater fтeedom in appointing candidates for church positions. Nevertheless, An­drew did not manage to deprive Czech King Premysl Otakar I of the possibility to influence the Czech church. However, the statement of Bishop Andrew acted as а catalyst that accelerated greatly the process of changes in the Czech church. The controversy ended in the so-called Great Privilege of 1222, under which the King granted different privileges of econom ic nature to church institutions.
