Abstract

Successful treatment of acute mesenteric ischemia depends upon early diagnosis and timely performed revascularization. Fourteen cases of acute mesenteric ischemia before the development of bowel infarction were analyzed in this study. The necessity of early diagnosis is underlined. If acute mesenteric ischemia is suspected, first is to exclude all other diseases with similiar symptoms in which unnecessary laparotomy саn bе fatal. Aggressive approach to surgical intervention is recommended if diagnosis of acute mesenteric ischemia саn not bе excluded. Laparoscopy саn bе useful in doubtful cases. Revascularization is the method of choice if mesenteric ischemia is diagnosed. Second look procedures must bе kept in mind in early postoperative period.
