Abstract

The Hungarian dialects of Transcarpathia have attracted attention of the scholars due to their specific archaic character grounded on the centuries old contacts developed with the Ukrainian, Slovakian and Romanian dialects. In the routine life of the people the meal has acquired the crucial role, so far, the study of the meal names and kitchen utensils is important not only for the linguistics but for the ethnography, history and culture of the people as well. Given the fact that every ethnicity, nation has some very specific names for their meals, beverages, cookies, utensils and food stemming from their cultural and tradition background, the Hungarians living in Transcarpathia and coming in close contracts with representatives of various ethnic groups Ukrainian, Slovak and Rumanians by borrowing of some names of the meals and practice of some utensils has created inimitable colour worth of study.
