Творчість Яна Смрека в контексті українсько-словацьких міжлітературних взаємин

Abstract

Jan Smrek was an outstanding Slovak poet who, according to D. Pavlychko’s felicitous expression, presents the whole epoch of bright, cheerful and vitalistic poetry in the Slovak literature. Some prominent Ukrainian authors of the inter-war period, such as O. Dovshenko, Y. Malaniuk and others were published in the journal “Elan” founded by Smrek (1930-1947). The periodical also gave the dreadful truth about the famine in Ukraine in 1933 and the annihilation of the Ukrainian artistic elite. The selected Ukrainian translations of J. Smrek’s heritage were contributed by V. Švec, M. Dolengo, Y. Kachiy, V. Zhytnyk, V. Luchuk, I. Matsynskyi, L. Molnar, S. Makara, D. Pavlychko, while the obly publication of selected poetry “From Golden Fantasy” (Slovakia, Prešov, 1996) was presented to the Ukrainian readership by V. Konopelets.
