Abstract:	This contribution discusses the development and implementation of the concept known as Sustainable devel-opment in the international context as well as its development and implementation within the context of Slovak republic. Not only in the conditions of Slovak republic we can mention, that in theoretical level there is an in-genuous coherence between quality of life and quality of environment, as well as the multi-relation between economy, welfare, environment and quality of life accepted. Nevertheless the transformation of theoretical knowledge into practical policy at all levels of governance and into the civic life is not always successful.
