TEACHING FOREIGN LANGUEGE THROUGH DIRECT METHOD

Abstract

Learning a foreign language has long tradition. Throughout the time, contact was maintained between groups of people speaking different languages. The desire to communicate with others was always inherent in human nature, although the intentions and goals that motivate people to form a dialogue have varied. By the beginning of the 70s of the XIX century, socio-economic conditions in Europe had radically changed. In the new conditions, there is a need for people who are proficient in a foreign language, primarily in oral communication. Teaching languages using grammatical and textual-translation methods could no longer meet the requirements of society. In the depths of translation methods, direct methods are emerging as their antithesis, with practical goals in the foreground, and, above all, oral language teaching. Psychologists and linguists such as V. Fiietor, P. Passy, G. Suit, O. Espersen, B. Eggert, as well as methodologists S. Schweitzer, M. Wendt, E.
