Поетика малої прози Гната Хоткевича

Abstract

Стаття присвячена вивченню малої прози Гната Хоткевича, формо-змістові параметри якої залишаються малодослідженими, що й зумовлює актуальність розвідки. Метою статті є вивчення жанрово-композиційних та стилістичних особливостей малих художніх форм, що дозволяє вияскравити творчу постать письменника на тлі тогочасного літературного процесу кінця ХІХ – початку ХХ століть. Із мети випливає ряд завдань: проаналізувати жанрове різноманіття малої прози митця; виявити характерні ознаки його ідіостилю, зокрема художні прийоми; оха-рактеризувати композиційні особливості малої прози; проілюструвати вияви паралелізму, які розширюють контекст та впливають на сприйняття проблематики творів. У статті коротко охарактеризовано ранню творчість Гната Хоткевича, його перші мистецькі пошуки в контексті відгуків тогочасної літературної критики, яка звинувачувала автора то у вульгарно-соціологічних підходах, то в декадансі. Найбільш виразно модернізм Гната Хоткевича виявився в малій прозі, на чому акцентували увагу як його сучасники, так і літературознавці другої половини ХХ – початку ХХІ століття. На основі детального аналізу збірки «Життєві аналогії» встановлено, що принципи асоціативності та паралелізму домінують у художньому мисленні митця і служать важливим композиційним прийомом. Збірка складається з ІХ частин, у кожній з яких на основі асоціативності поєднано 2 новели з окремими сюжетами і героями, що розширює й поглиблює проблемно-тематичний зріз творів на основі їх параболічності. Увага зосереджена на певних психологічних станах, сплесках почуттів, проявах людських і тваринних інстинктів, несподіваних поворотах долі, «театральнос-ті» світу, що посилюють відчуття невідворотності смерті, жаху та безвиході. Символічні деталі дозволяють розширити контекст та виявити аналогії між світом людей та природи. Щоб глибше передати внутрішні конфлікти та переживання героїв, Гнат Хоткевич нерідко вдається до синтезу мистецтв, асоціацій, паралелізму, особливо з музичної сфери, що зумовлено біографічним чинником і, у свою чергу, посилює модерністський дискурс його малої прози (гра на сцені/життя, музика/почуття, колористика/емоції).

The work is dedicated to the study of Hnat Khotkevych’s short prose, the formal and thematic parameters of which remain underexplored, thus highlighting the relevance of the research. The aim of the article is to explore the genre, compositional, and stylistic features of these small artistic forms, which allows us to illuminate the creative persona of the writer against the backdrop of the literary process of the late 19th–early 20th centuries. The aim gives rise to a number of objectives: to analyze the genre diversity of the artist’s short prose; to identify characteristic features of his individual style, including artistic techniques; to characterize the compositional peculiarities of the short prose; to illustrate the manifestations of parallelism, which broaden the context and influence the perception of the works’ themes. The article briefly characterizes Hnat Khotkevych’s early works and his initial artistic explorations within the context of contemporary literary criticism. During that time, the author faced accusations from critics who either criticized his vulgar-sociological approach or labeled his work as decadent. The modernist tendencies of Hnat Khotkevych became most pronounced in his short prose, which drew the attention of both his contemporaries and literary scholars of the second half of the 20th–early 21st centuries. Based on a detailed analysis of the collection “Life Analogies”, it is established that the principles of association and parallelism dominate the artistic thinking of the author and serve as important compositional techniques. The collection consists of nine parts, each combining two novellas with separate plots and characters based on associative connections, thus expanding, and deepening the thematic scope of the works through their parabolic nature. Attention is focused on specific psychological states, bursts of emotions, manifestations of human and animal instincts, unexpected twists of fate, and the “theatricality” of the world, intensifying the sense of the inevitability of death, horror, and hopelessness. Symbolic details allow for the expansion of context and the discovery of analogies between the world of humans and nature. In order to convey the internal conflicts and experiences of the characters more deeply, Hnat Khotkevych often resorts to the synthesis of arts, associations, and parallelism, particularly drawing from the realm of music. This is influenced by a biographical factor and, in turn, enhances the modernist discourse of his short prose (the play on stage/life, music/emotions, color palette/emotions).
