Abstract: The article deals with the activities of the Czech King Przemysl Otakar II during the 50 years of the XIII century. That period was marked by changes in the personal life of the ruler, as he married Margareta Babenberg and their marriage lasted about nine and a half years. The marriage was concluded as a political settlement and granted Przemysl Otakar II the rights to the Babenberg inheritance. It is difficult to say how the fate of the couple would have been, if they had the bearer of the family name, because Margareta Babenberg came from an old and noble family. In any case, Przemysl Otakar II received a considerable political benefit from that marriage, and, despite certain obstacles from the Hungarian king Bela IV, mana- ged to assert his domination in Austria and Styria.
