Абревіація в текстах англомовних фахових статей зі стоматології в діахронічному аспекті

Abstract

У статті на матеріалах трьох наукових робіт, приблизно однакових за обсягом, що були опубліковані з часовим інтервалом у 50 років, – Prosthetic Dentistry: The Public Health Aspect (1922), Survival of human dental plaque flora in various transport media (1972), Endodontic applications of 3D printing (2018) –з’ясовані тенденції щодо вживання абревіатур в англомовному дискурсі стоматології, виявлено та проаналізовано зміни їхніх структур типів, якісних характеристик та поширеності в діахронічному аспекті. Предметом дослідження були кількісний та якісний склад абревіатур. Ця розвідка виконана в рамках традиційної системно-структурної парадигми; методологія дослідження включала лінгвістичне спостереження, структурний метод, який охоплює компонентний, морфемний, словотвірний, трансформаційний аналіз, аналіз словникових дефініцій, описовий метод, використаний для систематизації та порівняння отриманих даних, елементи кількісного підрахунку. За результатами дослідження абревіатур у текстах англомовних наукових статей зі стоматології в діахронічному аспекті продемонстровано не лише їхнє кількісне збільшення, а й зростаючу структурну диверсифікацію упродовж ста років. Це слугує підтвердженням загальної тенденції щодо компресії інформації, тобто підпорядкованого законам мовної економії спрощення в процесі обробки або створення тексту його поверхневої структури. Переважання семантичних типів абревіатур на позначення біохімічних сполук та лікарських засобів. лікувальних чи діагностичних та технологій обробки матеріалів свідчить про те, що, розвиваючись, стоматологія взаємодіяла з низкою природничих та інженерно-технічних наук, а нині спирається на новітні досягнення матеріалознавства, оптики, ІТ технологій та біомедицини, а оскільки терміни цих галузей здебільшого є складними, то виникає потреба в більш компактних способах передачі значних обсягів інформації, до того ж абревіатури уможливлюють розширення дериваційних можливостей наявних найменувань. Оскільки абревіатури є невід’ємною лексичною складовою частиною наукового та професійного дискурсів, причому їх кількість постійно зростає, тому досить важливим як у теоретичному, так і в прикладному аспекті є визначення основних стратегій і тактик їх перекладу.

In the article on the materials of three the three publications, approximately the same in volume, which were published with a time interval of 50 years: Prosthetic Dentistry: The Public Health Aspect (1922), Survival of human dental plaque flora in various transport media (1972), Endodontic applications of 3D printing (2018) clarifies the trends in the use of abbreviations in the English discourse of dentistry, identified and analyzed changes in their structure types, qualitative characteristics and prevalence in the diachronic aspect. The subject of the study was the quantitative and qualitative composition of abbreviations. This exploration is performed within the traditional system-structural paradigm; the research methodology included linguistic observation, structural method, which includes component, morpheme, word-formation, transformational analysis, analysis of dictionary definitions, descriptive method used to systematize and compare the obtained data, elements of quantitative calculation. According to the results of the study of abbreviations in the texts of English-language scientific dental articles in the diachronic aspect, not only their quantitative increase was demonstrated, but also the growing structural diversification over a hundred years. This serves as a confirmation of the general trend in the compression of information, which is subject to the laws of language economy simplification in the process of processing or creating the text of its surface structure. The predominance of semantic types of abbreviations to denote biochemical compounds and drugs. Medical or diagnostic and materials processing technology indicates that, as it develops, dentistry has interacted with a number of natural and engineering sciences and now relies on the latest advances in materials science, optics, IT technology and biomedicine. That is why there is a need for more compact ways to transmit large amounts of information, in addition, abbreviations allow to expand the derivational capabilities of existing names. Since abbreviations are an integral lexical component of scientific and professional discourses, and their number is constantly growing, it is very important in both theoretical and applied aspects to determine the main strategies and tactics of their translation.
