Abstract

The article is аn attempt of characteristic of the Ukrainian General Encyclopaedia in three volumes, published in 1930-1935 in НаІісhіnа. Until quite recently this edition was either treated negatively in Ukraine or was passed over іn silence. Being preserved in special funds of libraries this Encyclopaedia was inaccessible for investigators. Detailed analysis of this bооk allowed the author of the article to make а conclusion that this edition, beyond its shortcomings, is to bе treated as а real Ukrainian universal encyclopaedia, which to some extent had not lost bу non its scientific value and earnestly makes us think over the necessity to create а new national encyclopaedia in many volumes, which should serve true interests of independent Ukraine.
