Перекладацькі стратегії як засоби маніпуляції свідомістю

Abstract

Стаття присвячена огляду таких перекладацьких стратегій, як доместикація та форенізація, в аспекті маніпуляції свідомістю читачів або глядачів. У статті робиться спроба теоретичного осмислення одомашнення та очуження як перекладацьких стратегій, визначення їх взаємин з традиційним співставленням доместикації і форенізації. Про доцільність використання тієї чи іншої стратегії перекладачі сперечаються давно. Зокрема, полеміка стосується буквального (або дослівного) і вільного перекладу, а також пошуку золотої середини між цими двома поняттями. Питання про вибір доместикації або форенізації як домінуючої стратегії в перекладі сягає корінням давньої суперечки про вільний і дослівний переклад. Звісно, аргументи, наведені в статті стосовно використання того чи іншого підходу, досить вагомі і рівнозначні. Вони не можуть допомогти ідентифікувати найкращий варіант. У більшості випадків перекладач поєднує обидві стратегії на свій розсуд, а ось успішність перекладу вже може бути оцінена за знаходженням золотої середини, тобто рамок, вихід за які вже свідчитиме про надмірне прагнення або до доместикації, або до форенізації. Також у статті висловлюється припущення про ефективність застосування стратегії очуження як механізму протидії маніпуляціям. У рамках перекладознавства цей прийом розглядається як різновид мовної гри, перекладацької стратегії і спосіб іншомовного побутування твору як витвору мистецтва. Спочатку очуження під час перекладу пов’язували зі стратегією форенізації. Однак останні дослідження в галузі художнього перекладу доводять доцільність використання очуження як прийому форенізації та доместикації. Будучи пов’язаним з зазначеними стратегіями, очуження не зводиться до жодного з зазначених прийомів. Аналіз застосування перекладацьких стратегій був проведений на основі американських серіалів, зокрема комедійного серіалу «Всі ненавидять Кріса».

The article is devoted to an overview of such translation strategies as domestication and foreignization in the aspect of manipulation of readers or viewers. The article attempts to theoretically comprehend domestication and estranging as translation strategies and determine their relations while comparing them to domestication and foreignization strategies. The controversy over the appropriateness of using a particular strategy is heard in the polemics of translators regarding literal and free translation, as well as in the search for “the golden mean” between these two concepts. The question of the choice between domestication and foreignization as the dominant strategy in translation has largely begun with the long-standing controversy over free and literal translation. Certainly, the reasons presented in the article regarding the use of one or another approach are equivalent and cannot help identify the best option. In most cases, the translator combines both strategies at his own discretion, but the success of the translation can already be assessed by finding “the golden mean”, a framework beyond which will already indicate an excessive desire for either domestication or foreignization. The article also suggests the effectiveness of the estranging strategy as a mechanism to resist manipulation. In the field of translation studies, this technique is considered as a kind of language game and translation strategy. Initially, the concept of estranging was associated with the strategy of foreignization. However, recent researches in the field of literary translation prove the compatibility of the estranging of both: foreignization and domestication strategies. Being associated with these strategies, the estranging strategy is not limited to any of the above techniques. The analysis of the translation strategies which were used in an article was conducted on the basis of American shows, and especially on the example of the comedy series “Everyone Hates Chris”.
