Speaking names у казках і народній творчості: лінгвокогнітивний потенціал

Abstract

Стаття присвячена дослідженню онімів у паремійному фонді англійської мови: прислів’ях, приказках, казках. Speaking names – нетермінологічна назва онімів, вживана в лінгвістичних колах. Власні назви (оніми) належать до мовних універсалій: вони існують в усіх мовах світу, але в кожній мові мають свої специфічні ознаки. У результаті пізнавальної діяльності людина категоризує інформацію в межах певної концептуальної картини світу. Оскільки картини світу характеризуються національною специфікою, то носії різних мов можуть бачити та членувати світ по-різному, крізь призму своїх мов. У зв’язку з цим у статті здійснено спробу вивчити особливості мислення представників англомовної культури та зрозуміти специфічні риси їх менталітету. У статті окреслено семантичний простір онімів, здійснено їх семантичну типологізацію за тематичним принципом, встановлено їхній лінгвокогнітивний потенціал у паремійному фонді англійської мови та у казках. У процесі дослідження встановлено, що, з одного боку, ізольований від контексту онім, як і будь-яка лексична одиниця, має денотативне значення і позначає референта, а з іншого боку, саме у тексті / дискурсі можна експлікувати такі додаткові відтінки оніма, як суб’єктивна авторська оцінка, емотивність, експресивність, функціонально-стилістична забарвленість. Семантичний аналіз антропонімів доводить антропоцентричну спрямованість англомовної казки. Виявлено, що за кількісними показниками зооніми переважають антропоніми, проте більшість власних назв з анімалістичним компонентом на позначення тварин-референтів алюзивно номінують чесноти чи вади людини, що свідчить про напучуваний характер казок. Отже, Speaking names мають потужний лінгвокогнітивний потенціал, адже це певний мікротекст, що абсорбує і транспонує національно-культурну інформацію етнічної групи мовців.

The article is devoted to the study of proper names (onyms) in the English folklore fund: proverbs, sayings and fairytales. Speaking names is a non-terminological name of onyms used in linguistic circles. Proper names belong to language universalities: they exist in all languages, but in each of them they have their own peculiar features. As a result of cognitive activity every person categorizes information within a definite conceptual picture of the world. As the picture of the world is characterized by the national specificity, various native speakers can see the world differently, through the prism of their own languages. This article helps to identify the peculiarities of the English speaking ethnic groups representatives, to learn their mentality and to understand the ways of their thinking. An attempt has been made in the article to outline the semantic space of onyms, to highlight their semantic typology on the thematic principle, to study their linguocognitive potential. In the process of the investigation it was proved that, on the one hand, onym is an isolated lexical unit that has its denotative meaning and names the referent. On the other hand, the text / the discourse enables the reader to explicate the additional shades of meaning in proper names. Proper names found in the context bear their emotive, expressive, evaluative, functional and stylistic colouring. It is in the context that the author’s subjective assessment of the proper name can be seen. The semantic analysis of anthroponyms proves the anthropocentric character of the English fairy-tale. It has been found that proper names with animalistic component outnumber anthroponyms but still allusively name human virtues and vices which speaks for edifying nature of a fairy-tale. Thus, the vast liguocognitive potential of proper names can be descried both in a single onym as well as in the context. Speaking names are viewed as a kind of micro-text absorbing and revealing the national and cultural peculiarities of an ethnic group.
