Вербалізація концепту POWER на основі твору Джорджа Мартіна «Гра престолів»

Abstract

У статті на матеріалі твору «Гра престолів» Дж. Мартіна – американського письменника-фантаста – проаналізовано та надано детальну характеристику концепту POWER, що, насамперед розглядається як категорія сили та влади, тому для виявлення його глибинної природи була акцентовано на особливості реалізації та репрезентації досліджуваного концепту. На основі аналізу останніх досліджень та публікацій було встановлено, що концепт виявляється, перш за все, на лексичному рівні й постає основною, повноцінною одиницею, яка реалізує творче індивідуально-авторське сприйняття й розуміння дійсності. У працях багатьох учених знаходить підтвердження ідея, що концепти відбивають цілісну картину всесвіту, яка існує поза мовним простором і лише вербалізується в ньому. В науковій розвідці поставлено завдання дослідити структуру концепту POWER у мовно-літературному просторі на основі твору Дж. Мартіна «Гра престолів», а також визначити структурні складники цього концепту. Отже, подану проблематику можна вважати актуальною з погляду на те, що вивчення концепту як лінгвістичної категорії є важливим не лише для мовних дисциплін, а й для інших фундаментальних гуманітарних галузей, а також для міждисциплінарних наук. Концепція влади та сили в романі розкривається через застосування лексеми “power”. У роботі розглянуто багато прикладів використання та зазначено, яке значення має слово в кожному випадку. Найчастіше ми бачимо, що концепт POWER перекладається як «Сильний», «Могутній», «Маючий владу», «Сила». Але ми виокремили також додаткові значення цього слова – «Військові сили», «Вплив», «Здібності». Таким чином, концепт є одночасно поняттям індивідуальним та соціальним, що дозволяє науковцям досліджувати його в мовній картині світу певної спільноти або в мовній свідомості окремого індивіда.

An article deals with the POWER concept based on the novel “Games of Thrones” by George Martin, an American science fiction writer, and it is analysed as category of power. In order to identify the deep nature of it we focused on the features of realization and representation of the following concept. Based on the analysis of the recent research and publications, it has been established that concept is primarily given at the lexical level and becomes the basic, full-fledged unit that realizes creative individual perception of the author and understanding of the reality. In the writings of many scholars, there is the idea that concepts reflect a holistic picture of the universe that exists outside of the linguistic space and is only verbalized in it. In the process of work, the purpose of this scientific research was to investigate structure of the POWER concept in the linguistic and literary space on the basis of the work of John Martin “Games of Thrones” and to determine the structural components of concept. Therefore, this issue can be considered relevant in view of the fact that the study of concept as a linguistic category is important not only for the language disciplines but also for other fundamental branches as well as for the interdisciplinary sciences. Concept of power in the novel is revealed through the use of the word “power”. Many examples of usage are considered in the paper and the meaning of the word in each case is indicated. Most often, we see that the POWER concept translates to “Strong”, “Powerful”, “Holding Power”, “Power”. But we have met the additional meanings of this word – “Military Forces”, “Influence”, “Abilities”. Thus, concept is both an individual and a social, allowing the scientists to explore it in the linguistic picture of the world of a particular community or in the linguistic consciousness of an individual.
