Гендерний аспект мовних засобів вираження сучасних британських імен

Abstract

У статті за допомогою описового, статистичного та порівняльно-зіставного методів розглянуто гендерні особливості мовних засобів вираження британських чоловічих і жіночих імен. З’ясовано, що офіційне ім’я перетворює людину з біологічного індивіда на суб’єкт і об’єкт соціально-правових стосунків і є невід’ємною частиною особистості. Ім’я в процесі спілкування підкреслює соціально-статусні відмінності учасників комунікації (стать, вік, суспільне становище, ступінь знайомства), указуючи кожному його місце в суспільній ієрархії. Установлено, що здебільшого ознака статі в британському антропоніміконі реалізується морфологічно (чоловічий рід із нульовим закінченням – жіночий рід із закінченням -а), однак більшість імен не утворює таких чітких опозиційних пар. Окрім того, існують і фонетичні та акцентуаційні відмінності британських чоловічих і жіночих імен (неоднакова кількість фонем, складів, різні наголошені склади, відмінність у структурі за типами складів). Виявлено, що британський антропонімікон – це система, яка постійно розвивається, а тому на початку ХХІ ст. в системі засобів вираження британських чоловічих та жіночих імен відбуваються певні зміни, які відображають перебудову світогляду суспільства, відмову від гендерних стереотипів у виборі імені для дитини. Установлено, що межею стирання родових відмінностей є поява статево індиферентних імен, або імен-унісекс, джерелом яких є запозичені імена й оніми інших розрядів і структурно-модифіковані традиційні імена. Їх активне використання сьогодні пов’язують із подальшим розвитком західноєвропейської демократії, поширенням феміністичного руху, сексуальною революцією, мовним антисексизмом. З’ясовано, що в неоднорідній за складом групі статево індиферентних імен виникають їхні графічні й морфологічні варіанти. Імена-унісекс відіграють значну роль у приховуванні статі свого носія, що привабливо для жінок, які відчувають гендерне стереотипізування за ім’ям, і невигідне для чоловіків. Поява й стрімке поширення статево індиферентних імен представляє тривалий неоднорідний процес розширення референції імені за ознакою статі майже до його повної заміни.

The article uses descriptive, statistical and comparative methods to consider the gender characteristics of the linguistic means of expression of British male and female names. It has been found that the official name transforms a person from a biological individual into a subject and object of social and legal relations and is an integral part of the personality. The name in the process of communication emphasizes the socio-status differences of the participants of communication (gender, age, social status, degree of acquaintance), indicating to each his place in the social hierarchy. It is established that for the most part the sign of sex in the British anthroponymicon is realized morphologically (masculine with zero ending - feminine with ending -a), but most names do not form such clear opposition pairs. More over, there are phonetic and accentual differences between British male and female names (different number of phonemes, syllables, different stressed syllables, differences in structure by types of syllables). It was found that the British anthroponymicon is a system that is constantly evolving, and therefore at the beginning of the XXI century in the system of means of expression of British male and female names there are some changes that reflect the restructuring of society, abandoning gender stereotypes in choosing a name for a child. It is established that the border of erasure of gender differences is the appearance of sexually indifferent names, or unisex names, the source of which are borrowed names and those of other categories and structurally modified traditional names. Their active use today is associated with the further development of Western European democracy, the spread of the feminist movement, the sexual revolution, and language antisexism. It was found that in a heterogeneous group of sexually indifferent names, their graphic and morphological variants appear. Unisex names play a significant role in concealing the gender of their wearer, which is attractive to women who experience gender stereotyping by name and disadvantageous to men. The emergence and rapid spread of sexually indifferent names is a long inhomogeneous process of expanding the reference of the name on the basis of sex almost to its complete replacement.
