Жанрова специфіка виховного роману в перекладі (на матеріалі україномовного перекладу роману В. Тевіса «Хід королеви»)

Abstract

Статтю присвячено жанровій специфіці виховного роману в перекладі. Виховний роман визначено як тип роману, в якому домінує тема виховання та розвитку характеру. Виховний роман знаходиться у річищі сучасних перекладацьких розвідок, оскільки тема виховання та становлення особистості займає чільне місце в культурно-філософській царині. Основними характеристиками виховного роману є зосередження оповіді навколо головного героя, зображення формування його світогляду та внутрішньої еволюції. Важливу роль в цьому становленні героя також відіграють другорядні персонажі, оточення, спосіб життя, освіта та виховання. Було проаналізовано основні тенденції та ознаки згаданого жанру, а саме: тема зростання та виховання особистості, зображення еволюції головної героїні. У статті також розглянуто проблему перекладу художньої літератури, основні труднощі при перекладі художніх текстів, та особливості перекладацького застосування перекладацьких трансформацій. На матеріалі україномовного перекладу роману Волтера Тевіса «Хід королеви» було охарактеризовано основні ознаки жанру виховного роману. Визначено основні перекладацькі трансформації, якими послуговувався перекладач при перекладі роману та відтворенні його жанрової специфіки. Серед найпоширеніших перекладацьких трансформацій є контекстуальна заміна, конкретизація, транспозиція та компресія. Домінантною перекладацькою трансформацією при перекладі аналізованих уривків роману є контекстуальна заміна, що дозволяє перекладачеві передати зміст оригінального тексту, який відповідатиме культурному контексту мови перекладу. З позиції перекладознавства, актуальність жанру виховного роману зумовлюється відображенням різноманітних соціальних, культурних та історичних обставин. Перекладачі при цьому відіграють важливу роль у передачі культурної специфіки і ототожнення читача з різним досвідом та з досліджуваною історією.

This article is devoted to the genre specificity of the coming of age novel in translation. The coming of age novel has been defined as a type of novel dominated by the theme of upbringing and character development. Among its main characteristics are the focus of the narrative around the protagonist, the depiction of the formation of his worldview and inner evolution. Secondary characters, the environment, lifestyle, education and upbringing also play an important role in this character development. The article analyses the main tendencies and features of this genre, namely: the theme of growth and education of the individual, the depiction of the evolution of the main character. The problem of literary translation, the main difficulties in translating literary texts, and the peculiarities of the translation process have been studied. On the basis of the Ukrainian translation of Walter Tevis's novel The Queen's Gambit, the main features of the coming of age novel genre of the educational novel are characterised. We have identified the main transformations used by the transla tor in translating the novel and rendering its genre specificity. Among the most common translation transformations were contextual substitution, concretization, transposition and compression. The most dominant translation transformation in the translation of the analysed novel excerpts was contextual substitution. This can be attributed to the fact that contextual substitution allows the translator to convey the meaning of the original text in a more acceptable way that corresponds to the cultural context of the target language. From the point of view of translation studies, the relevance of the coming of age novel genre is determined by the portrayal of various social, cultural and historical circumstances. In this case, translators play an important role in conveying cultural specificity and identifying the reader with different experiences with the story under study.
