Abstract

У статті розглянуто такі терміни, як «мовна особистість», «мовленнєва особистість», «мовний портрет персонажа», «мовленнєвий портрет персонажа». Зроблено висновок щодо більш широкого значення перших термінів у відповідних парах і більш вузького значення других термінів. Проведено аналіз поняття й явища мовленнєвої характеристики як важливого складника образу персонажа, розглянуто структуру її елементів. Зазначено необхідність розрізняти мовленнєву характеристику персонажа на робочому місці та під час більш невимушеного спілкування з колегами, а також друзями чи знайомими. Висунуто припущення щодо особливостей мовленнєвої характеристики такого персонажа, як патологоанатом, у творах детективного жанру: у ній зазвичай присутня велика кількість термінології та можуть зустрічатися елементи чорного гумору та (само)іронії завдяки роботі такого фахівця «між двох світів» – світом живих і світом мертвих, що не може не накладати відбиток на світосприйняття та, звідси, на поведінку людини. Надано стислу мовленнєву характеристику персонажа Мори Айлз у романі сучасної американської авторки Тесс Ґеррітсен The Apprentice, відзначено такі особливості її мовлення, як застосування фахової термінології поза межами робочого місця, елементи (само)іронії та чорного гумору, стислість висловлювань, переважання простих речень і речень із усіченою структурою (з опущенням підмета та/або присудка). Така особливість мовлення Мори Айлз дає змогу читачеві уявити собі рішучу, гарно освічену жінку, яка є гарним фахівцем не лише у проведенні розтину та виявленні причин загибелі людини, а й у викладанні в університеті, адже до того, як потрапити на роботу в поліцію, вона працювала викладачкою. Такі навички дуже допомагають їй у спілкуванні з колегами. Мовленнєвий портрет Мори Айлз підкреслює мовну характеристику, яку їй надає авторка, називаючи її the Queen of the Dead i a Gothess.

The article deals with the issue of peculiarities of a character sketch in a modern detective story. Such linguistic terms as "language personality", "speech personality", "language portrait of a character", "speech portrait of a character" are compared. It is concluded that the first terms in the respective pairs have a broader meaning, while the second terms have a narrower meaning. A brief analysis of the concept and phenomenon of speech characteristics as an important component of the character sketch is carried out, and the structure of its elements is considered. The author concludes that it is necessary to distinguish between the speech characteristics of a character at his\her workplace, on the one hand, and in more relaxed communication (with colleagues, as well as friends or acquaintances), on the other hand. An assumption has been made about the peculiarities of the speech characteristics of such a detective story character as the pathologist: it may contain elements of black humor and (self) irony due to his\her work, so to say, "between the two worlds", namely, the world of the living and the world of the dead. Such kind of a job cannot but leave an imprint on the character’s worldview and, hence, on human behavior. A brief description is given of Mory Isles' character in The Apprentice, a detective story and thriller by a modern US writer Tess Gerritsen. Such features of her speech as the use of professional terminology beyond the workplace, elements of (self) irony and black humor, conciseness, predominance of simple sentences and sentences with truncated structure (with the omission of the subject and / or predicate) are enumerated and illustrated by examples from the text. This feature of Mori Isles' speech allows the reader to imagine a determined, well-educated woman, who is a good specialist not only in autopsy and identification of causes of death, but also in teaching at the university, because before getting a job with the police, she worked as a professor. Such skills help her a lot in communicating with colleagues. The speech portrait of Maura Isles emphasizes the language characteristics given to her by the author, who calls her the Queen of the Dead and a Gothess.
