Abstract

The Hungarian dialects of Transcarpathia belong to the norteastern type of the all-Hungarian dialects in both geographical and dialectal aspects though they possess а number of phonetic and morophological peculiarities due to their national colouring. Until mid ХХ the Hungarian dialects of Transcarpathia were not the subject-matter of thorough investigations. In 1963 the Hungarian language department was opened on the basis of the philological faculty of Uzhhorod State University. Both teachers and students participated in conferences on cross-language contacts; at the same time investigating the Hungarian dialects of Transcarpathia. In the article the classification of the dialects of Transcarpathia is given on the basis of phonetics and grammatical peculiarities.
