Функції фразеологічних одиниць у трилогії С. Коллінз «Голодні ігри»

Abstract

У статті розкрито функціональну специфіку фразеологічних одиниць на матеріалі трилогії «Голодні ігри» сучасної американської письменниці Сюзанни Коллінз. Для досягнення мети дослідження застосовано лінгвістичні методи аналізу тексту, контекстуально-інтерпретативний, компонентний аналіз, семантико-когнітивний та функціональний аналіз. Визначено, що у досліджуваних літературних творах фразеологічні одиниці виконують номінативну, дескриптивну, оцінну, емоційно-експресивну, апелятивну, варіантологічну функції, а також вживаються з метою лаконізації мовлення. Номінативна функція фразеологічних одиниць виявляється під часу опису людини та її характеристик, предметів та явищ у літературному тексті. Дескриптивна функція описує внутрішні якості героїв твору, надає портретну та мовну характеристику персонажів. Оцінна функція фразеологізмів простежується у вираженні позитивного або негативного ставлення героїв до об’єктів, інших персонажів твору, навколишньої дійсності. Емоційно-експресивна функція також містить компонент оцінки, може виражати позитивні та негативні почуття, описувати психічний стан героїв. За привертання уваги читача та спонукання до сприйняття запланованого автором повідомлення відповідає апелятивна функція фразеологічних одиниць. Функція лаконізації мовлення дозволяє авторці стисло, але точно та зрозуміло висловити власну думку, реалізувати творчий задум, вплинути на формування точки зору читача. Варіантлогічна функція фразеологічних одиниць у тексті трилогії простежується в описі варіантно маркованої картини світу і вказує на етнокультурну специфіку фразеологічних одиниць, яка різниться у британському, американському та інших варіантах англійської мови. Визначено, що в досліджуваних романах найуживанішими функціями фразеологічних одиниць є номінативна, емоційно-експресивна, функція лаконізації мови та апелятивна функція. Доведено, що фразеологізми, вжиті в трилогії, відображають явища, дії, емоції героїв, описують самих героїв та створюють фонову атмосферу романів, допомагають авторці підсилити емоційність й експресивність ситуацій, описаних у творі. Перспективи подальших досліджень вбачаємо у порівняльному аналізі фразеологічного фонду сучасної української та американської літератур, вивченні особливостей перекладу фразеолексем українською мовою.

The article deals with the functional specificity of phraseological units used in the «Hunger Games» trilogy by the modern American writer Suzanne Collins. To achieve the aim of the article the following linguistic research methods are used: contextual-interpretive, component analysis, semantic-cognitive and functional analysis. It was determined that in the literary works under study phraseological units perform nominative, descriptive, evaluative, emotional-expressive, appellative, variantological functions, and are also used for the purpose of concise speech. The nominative function of phraseological units is revealed during the description of a person and their characteristics, objects and phenomena in a literary text. The descriptive function describes the inner qualities of the fictional heroes, provides a portrait and linguistic characteristics of the characters. The evaluative function of phraseological units can be traced in the expression of heroes’ positive or negative attitude to objects, other characters of the work, and the surrounding reality. The emotional-expressive function also contains an evaluation component, can express positive and negative feelings, describe the mental state of the characters. The appellative function of phraseological units is responsible for attracting the reader’s attention and encouraging them to perceive the message planned by the author. The function of speech laconization allows the author to express her own opinion in a concise, but accurate and clear way, realize her creative idea, and influence the formation of the reader’s point of view. The variantological function of phraseological units in the text of the trilogy can be traced in the description of the variantly marked picture of the world and indicates the ethno-cultural specificity of phraseological units, which differs in British, American and other variants of the English language. It was determined that in the novels under study, phraseological units are mostly used in their nominative, emotional-expressive, language laconization and appellative functions. It was proved that the phraseological units used in the trilogy reflect the phenomena, actions, characters’ emotions, describe the heroes themselves and create the background atmosphere of the novels, help the author to strengthen the emotionality and expressiveness of the situations described in the work. Prospects for further research lie in the comparative analysis of the phraseological fund of modern Ukrainian and American literature, studying the peculiarities of translating English phraseological units into the Ukrainian language.
