Реалізація стратегії очуження шляхом відтворення синестезійних метафоричних моделей в англо-укаїнських художніх перекладах

Abstract

У статті розглядаються та аналізуються когнітивні метафоричні моделі, що складають підґрунтя синестезійних дескрипцій слухових відчуттів, виявляється взаємозв’язок між труднощами, з якими стикається перекладач під час перекладу синестезійних метафоричних дескрипцій та когнітивними операціями, які він застосовує; поглиблена увага приділяється когнітивній операціі відтворення синестезійної метафори в тексті перекладу в межах стратегії очуження, глибше та докладніше вивчаються когнітивні моделі моделей синестезійних метафор, які актуалізуються в тексті перекладу після застосування когнітивної операції відтворення в англо-українських перекладах художніх текстів у межах стратегії очуження. Методика дослідження спирається на доробок когнітивних перекладацьких студій, які одночасно вивчають процеси, що відбуваються у свідомості перекладача під час перекладу, та результат цих процесів. Тип когнітивної операції класифікуємо за M. Шуттлеворфом (2017), який виділяє відтворення (retention), усунення (removal), упущення (omission), заміна (modification), привнесення (addition). Відтворення (retention) – це переклад, що майже не змінено (“a translation that is essentially unchanged”) [Shuttleworth, 2017, с. 126]. Ступінь конвенціональності метафоричних дескрипцій визначаємо відповідно до відносної частоти вживання метафоричної дескрипції на мільйон токенів. Ці дані отримуються з Корпусу сучасної американської англійської мови (COCA), та з Генерального регіонального анотованого корпусу української мови (Grac v.16). Матеріалом дослідження є 100 метафоричних моделей, вилучені із романа американського письменника Ентоні Дорра «Все те незриме світло», виданого у 2014 році. Робиться висновок щодо кореляції застосованої стратегії перекладу, когнітивної операції та ступеню конвенціональності оригінальних та перекладених синестезійних метафоричних дескрипцій в англомовній та україномовній лінгвокультурах.

The article discusses and analyzes cognitive metaphorical models that underlie synesthetic descriptions of hearing sensations. It reveals the relationship between the challenges a translator faces during the translation of synesthetic metaphorical descriptions and the cognitive operations they employ. Special attention is given to the cognitive operation of retention synesthetic metaphor in the translated text within the scope of the foreignizing strategy. An in-depth and detailed study is conducted on the cognitive models of synesthetic metaphor models that are actualized in the translation text after the application of the cognitive operation of retention in English-Ukrainian translations of literary texts as part of the foreignizing strategy. The research methodology is based on the cognitive translation studies, which simultaneously examine the processes occurring in the translator's mind during translation and the results of these processes. The type of cognitive operation is classified according to M. Shuttleworth (2017), who distinguishes retention, removal, omission, modification, and addition. Retention refers to “a translation that is essentially unchanged” [25 с. 126]. The degree of conventionality of metaphorical descriptions is determined based on the relative frequency of usage of the metaphorical description per million tokens. This data is obtained from the Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA) and the General Regional Annotated Corpus of the Ukrainian Language (Grac v. 16). The research material consists of 100 metaphorical models extracted from the novel “All the Light We Cannot See” by American writer Anthony Doerr, published in 2014. The article concludes with the correlation between the applied translation strategy, cognitive operation, and the degree of conventionality of original and translated synesthetic metaphorical descriptions in English and Ukrainian linguocultures.
