Функціонування сюрвейєрських термінів морської галузі: перекладацький аспект

Abstract

В умовах сучасної лінгвістичної глобалізації спостерігається особливий інтерес до вивчення функціонування різних термінів, що у свою чергу зумовлює затребуваність досліджень у морській галузі. У зв’язку з цим, питання щодо морської термінології, в тому числі й сюрвейєрської, набуває все більшого значення і детального огляду. Зазначена стаття висвітлює теоретичні відомості про терміносистему морської галузі засобами англійської мови, визначає види й функції спеціальної термінології та професіоналізмів у сучасній англійській мові; аналізує підходи щодо перекладу термінологічних одиниць сфери сюрвейєрської діяльності. Проаналізувавши ряд відповідних вузькопрофільних термінів, пропонуються найбільш поширені способи їх перекладу, як транскодування, виявлення еквіваленту терміну, семантична конвергенція, калькування, запозичення, використання інтернаціоналізмів і переклад термінів описовою конструкцією. Відповідно, коли словник не дає точного еквівалента відповідному терміну або коли застосування однієї з перелічених перекладацьких трансформацій недоречне, можливими також є інші прийоми перекладу, а саме: спосіб компресії при перекладі багатокомпонентних термінів, тобто опущення семантично незначного елемента або поєднання декількох слів в одне. Вибір способу перекладу термінів визначається рядом факторів, серед яких можна виокремити логіко-предметний, термінологічний, стилістичний, фактор нормативності та лінгвістичні фактори. Слід зазначити, що варіанти використання кількох прийомів перекладу одночасно найбільш вірогідно на практиці, тому у процесі перекладу вузькоспеціалізованих морських термінів, таких як сюрвейєрські термінологічні одиниці, перекладачу необхідно опиратися на контекст та враховувати особливості морської спеціалізації.

The given article is devoted to the functioning of surveying terms in maritime industry and the peculiarities of their translation. There is a special interest in studying the functioning of various terms due to modern linguistic globalization. This requirement determines the demand for research in the maritime field including survey terminology. This fact takes importance and a detailed review. Thus, theoretical information about the terminology system of the maritime industry has been highlighted, the types and functions of special terminology and professionalism have been defined in the modern English, and approaches to the translation of the terminological units in the field of surveying have been analyzed. After analyzing a number of relevant narrow-profile terms, the most common methods of their translation have been proposed, such as transcoding, finding the equivalent of a term, semantic convergence, tracing, borrowing, using internationalisms, and translating terms using a descriptive construction. Accordingly, when the dictionary does not provide an exact equivalent for the corresponding term or when the application of one of the listed translation transformations is inappropriate, other methods of translation are also possible. Take for instance, the method of compression when translating multi-component terms, i. e. omitting a semantically insignificant element or combining several words into one. The choice of the translation methods has been determined by a number of factors which can be logical-objective, terminological, stylistic, normative and linguistic factors. It should be mentioned that options for using several methods of translation are the most likely in practice. Therefore, in the process of translating highly specialized maritime terms, such as surveyor terminological units, a translator should rely on the context and take into account the peculiarities of maritime specialization.
